The following projects are examples from past terms and are listed to give prospective entrepreneurial interns an idea of how participating in this program can help aspiring entrepreneurs establish a business utilizing resources at EI Institute and in China.
1. Patrick Shell Collections Custom-Made Suits
Project Introduction
Patrick Shell Jr. attended EI Institute with an interest in starting his own clothing line. After brainstorming potential ideas and analyzing their potential risks and benefits, Patrick decided to establish a custom clothing brand.
After confirming his interest in the fashion industry, Patrick produced a market research report highlighting trends, pricing and opportunities in his local market of Jackson, Mississippi. This research laid the foundation for the creation of his business plan, which detailed the vision, brand and product of his new venture. The business plan also mapped-out the tasks he would need to complete in order to establish an efficient global supply chain that would provide him with a competitive advantage in his local market.

2. UMOJA Lifestyle brand
Project Introduction
Interns Te'Yarri Simpson, Courtland White and Nekeima Mitchell came to Nanjing interested in starting a business. They were uncertain exactly what kind of business would be most profitable but were particularly interested in music and passionate about creating a positive youth popular culture. Tying these two interests together, EI Institute staff assisted the three entrepreneurs in establishing a lifestyle brand called, UMOJA, which means 'unity' in the East African language of Swahili. According to the entrepreneurs' vision statement, written while attending EI Institute, UMOJA seeks to "connect urban youth communities through products of innovation and creativity." The group decided that their first innovative product would be, "The Trilogiez," an MP3-integrated wireless headphone device.
