Program Overview

Creating a competitive advantage is one of the largest obstacles for entrepreneurs. Establishing contacts and gaining access to supply chains in China provides entrepreneurs with a skill set that enhances their chances of establishing a profitable enterprise.

EI Institute's Entrepreneurial Internship Program is designed for students who are looking to establish a new business or expand an existing business by leveraging resources in China. Participants can choose to work independently or with a pre-selected group approved by an EI Institute admission officer in the application process.


Participants in the Entrepreneurial Internship program will work with EI Institute faculty on the planning and set-up phases of their enterprise. Assignments include:


   Market research
   SWOT Analysis
   Market Analysis
   Price benchmarking
   Sourcing
   Factory selection
   Establishing a logistics network
   Establishing product pricing
   Executive summary
   Business plan

Program Highlights

To ensure participants get the most out of their internship experience, EI Institute provides the following project-specific services:

   Weekly project review meetings with Project Manager
   Customized professional training
   Three one-day trips exploring Chinese and global business operations
   Business forums and speakers
   Career events
   Mentor for guidance, troubleshooting, and support
   Professional Pack – Includes cell phone, business cards, and city guide
   Investor and business networking opportunities

Program Curriculum
Orientation & Professional Skill Training 50 hours (25 for summer)
Internship 20 hours per week
Language Classes 10 hours per week (8 for summer)
Cultural Perspectives Multimedia Project, reading assignments and essay

Orientation and Professional Training

To ensure a smooth transition EI Institute will provide extensive orientation and professional training that includes:

   Professional skills training related to internship assignments
   Survival Chinese
   Chinese market and business lectures
   Project management training
   Thought and innovation training
   Team building and cooperative learning exercises
   Speakers and forums
   Discussion groups and sharing activities
   City tours and activities
  Three one-day trips exploring global business in China


Language Classes

Effective communication is essential for success in any business. Understanding this, EI Institute provides all participants with Chinese language instruction at Hohai University.

With over 50 years of experience in teaching Chinese as a second language, Hohai University tailors intensive classes to provide our participants with the basic understanding of the language to help them quickly adapt and progress in China.

Classes are customized specifically for EI Institute students. EI Institute's affiliate partner, Jackson State University, will grant academic credit for the language classes.

Cultural Perspectives


The Cultural Perspectives course is designed to promote cultural understanding between different communities in China and the United States. Through writing and presentation assignments, students will improve their ability to recognize and discuss cultural differences in a constructive way.
